The First High Game Event raises more than $1000 for the 2020
Fund
Twenty one squash enthusiasts, ranging in age from
11 to 60+ participated in The First High Game Event at The Arbutus
Club on June 16th. A Silent Auction and a significant portion
of the entry fee raised $1100 for the 2020 Fund, supporting junior
squash.
Pool games (one game to 11 points, rally point scoring)
were used to determine divisional placements. Thus, each participant
played a minimum six games. In Division One, youth and fitness
prevailed over guile and seniority as Tim Saunders (Bentall) defeated
Dave Adams (Bentall). In Division Two, a similar pattern emerged
with a youthful Emilie Mackie (VRC – recently graduated
from Dartmouth University, where she played on the squash team)
defeated Pat Paproski (Bentall). In Division Three, David O’Brien
(Evergreen) defeated Gordon Bitney (VLTBC). Consolation winners
were Gavin Roy (Bentall), Andrew Dempsey (Jericho) and Lucas Ravkov
(Arbutus).
After play everyone retired to the Lounge for dinner
and drinks.
Thanks to the Silent Auction contributors –
Gordon Bitney, Morley Jameson and especially to Allan Brown who
contributed the majority of the items.
Thanks also to our prize sponsors – Dunlop/Larry
Armstrong and Lululemon. We also acknowledge the support of The
Arbutus Club for hosting the event so well.
Our goal is to double the number of entries for
next year. Watch for the announcement!
Morley Jameson and Allan Brown.
