Sask. was a very intensive, challenging and super satisfactory
tournament. Saskatoon is a really nice town, very picturesque,

There were 100 entrants to the 2008 BC Junior Open Squash
Championships, on January 25-27, 2008, which included players
from the Yukon Territory, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba as

event, it is a keeper and one you really should try to attend.

Team Win Silver in Moncton
So, the journey began bright and early on Thursday morning.
Sarah, Alicia and I met at Vancouver Airport ready to play
our best squash (that’s including drop shot’s
not bomb’s). Luckily we got plenty of legroom on the
way there and the journey was completed very quickly with
the team bonding from all different areas of the world.

We all met at the airport on Thursday evening, Matt
Fahey gave us the sponsorship package from Lululemon. We
arrived at the hotel in Winnipeg about mid night local time
10:00pm our time. We had difficulty resting right the way

The first weekend of March saw people come from all over
BC to participate in Squash BC’s premier event of

The BC Junior Team spent the past weekend competing in the
2006 Alberta Jesters Junior event held at The Glencoe Club
in Calgary, Alberta. The Alberta Jesters is a large event
drawing over 200 Canadian athletes from as far away as Ontario.

Award
The Sportsmanship Award, which is given out at major tournaments
and is sponsored by Crystal Clear, Justin Stitches &
Promosapien, and Squash BC, was given to a very worthy individual
at the BC Open.
Thomas Brinkman was the deserving winner from the recent
BC Open at Bentall. He is one of those opponents who are
impossible to hate, due to his fun-loving nature and willingness
to concede rallies when he has carried the ball, even if
the ref missed the call. Congratulations Thomas!

is with enormous sadness that we announce the death of Gary
Hogg on May 3, 2005 in Nanaimo Hospital. At his side was his
loving wife of 21 years, Lorna Hogg. Also in attendance were
his children Christine, Scott (Kimberley), his brothers Darryl
and Richard. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren. Gary had
a full active life with many hobbies and interests. Notably
Squash, winning the Canadian National Senior title and competing
Internationally in Finland. He is remembered for his quick
wit, adventurous spirit and kindness. A service was held at
the Knox United Church, on Saturday, May 7, 2005. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA. more...

Terry Cole: Sportsmanship
award winner from Western Canadians
Terry's first match was very close. During the fifth Terry
volunteered that a shot he made along the side wall was on
the line when from the referee’s perspective it was
a good shot (turning the point in favor of his opponent).
Later his opponent made a similar shot and Terry did not ask
for a let. He demonstrated excellent sportsmanship the entire
match and was polite and friendly to his opponent at all times.

Can-Am Team Championships which took place on April 2, 3,
and 4. This new annual team-format tournament had four teams

Title
Veteran squash professional Andrew Lynn, of Richmond,
claimed his 5th provincial squash title this weekend at the
2004 BC Provincial Squash Championships in Vancouver. Lynn
met little resistance along the way, with straight game wins

There were a total of eight participating teams: two from
BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan, and one each from Ontario and
Manitoba.The tournament was extended to include Ontario because

enthusiastic about the format of the weekend, and is already
talking about putting together a similar tournament for the
eastern provinces.

Clackson Repeats As Champion
At this years National Junior Champs in Charlottetown,
PEI, BC was represented by 20 juniors, 10 boys and 10 girls.
It was very gratifying to see our province so well represented
considering the cost to fly there and the outbreak of SARS
in Toronto. The effects of jet lag were very evident during
the early rounds but everyone adapted quickly to the 4 hour

| Ross Genge wins Sportsmanship
Award at the PCO
Picture the scene: Late Friday night, last match on court
between Lorne (Showtime) Stienke from the River Club and
Ross Genge from VRC. Showtime has quite a following from
the River Club with his unusual style and on court presence.
Anyway the crowd was going berserk and cheering Showtime
with every miss hit and his uncanny talent of hitting the
ball as loose as possible. Ross just kept his cool with
all the cheering going to Showtime and eventually pulled

College Squash Association Formed
in USA to Promote, Govern Growing College Programs
Heads of the USA men's and women's college squash leagues
announced this week the inauguration of the CSA (Collegiate
Squash Association). CSA has been created to promote and oversee
both men's and women's collegiate squash, according to co-

informed of significant changes that could affect the sport

Sportsmanship Award at the Sun
‘n’ Surf tournament
Tim Vipond was the winner of the Sportsmanship award
at the Sun ‘n’ Surf tournament. Tim is a great example
to others on the court. He accepts the ref’s calls and
moves on without engaging in visual or oral objections. Well
