To: All Squash BC members
From: John Roche, President
As you can see from the name and title, there have been some
changes on the Executive Committee of Squash BC. I have now assumed
the role of President and Brooke Siver is now happily using the
title “Past President”. Brooke, Sandra Clark, Peter
Markgraf and Tim Saunders have departed from their Executive duties
and are hopefully using the extra time to get on court and swing
a racquet. We all owe these folks a huge “thank you”
for their time and commitment to Squash BC.
My thanks also goes to Bill Vipond who agreed to stay on as Treasurer
and provide some much needed continuity and corporate memory to
the Executive. Brooke’s attendance at Executive and Board
meetings will also assist us with continuity and corporate memory.
Your new Executive are:
John Roche, President
David Leman, Vice President and Junior Coordinator
Mark Ingram, Secretary
Bill Vipond, Treasurer
Brooke Siver, Past President
The Board of Directors is comprised of the Executive and zone
representatives and committee heads. The full list of the Board
of Directors can be found at http://www.squashbc.com/about/index.htm
We are very fortunate to have Kevin Kydd as our Executive Director.
Kevin is a past president of Squash BC, a coach, referee and active
player. He is also the voice on the other end of the phone when
you call our office. He has a wealth of knowledge about squash
in BC and is able to apply that knowledge to the benefit of us
all.
Everyone on the Board is a volunteer with a passion for squash
that goes beyond just playing the game. They are willing to spend
that extra time to ensure we have a strong provincial organization.
I personally believe that a strong provincial organization provides
that necessary link between the clubs and players in BC and the
larger world of squash including Squash Canada and the World Squash
Federation. The game would not exist without organizations and
volunteers who ensure squash is played consistently around the
world and is enjoyed by all ages in all countries.
As I begin my role as President, I want to create a planning
document that will serve as a stimulant for discussion about the
direction of Squash BC and a place to record that discussion.
I would like to take some time to ensure we are setting proper
goals for Squash BC and meeting the expectations of our members.
Sooooo I have a short assignment for everyone reading this note.
Email me at president@squashbc.com
with your response to these two questions:
The answer to the first question will tell us your vision for
Squash BC. What role should a provincial organization play in
order to add value to the clubs and individuals who are its members?
The response to the second question will assist the Executive
in setting some short term goals for the coming season.
Take a few minutes right now and send me an email with your thoughts.
All input will be valuable to me. I will be using your responses
to build a plan to guide our efforts in this and the following
years. I will be sharing that plan with you later in the fall.
That’s all for now.
Play hard, play fair, play squash.
..John
