BC TEAMS SHINE AT NATIONAL TEAMS EVENT
Victoria, BC - The Canadian Men's and Women's Team
Champions took place in Victoria this past weekend and BC was
on fire. The BC #1 Women's Team won the Gold Medal defeating Alberta
in the final. The #2 Women's Team were seeded 5th but finished
a well earned 4th. The key to the #2 Team finishing higher than
expected was probably due to a great win by Ashley Clackson over
Louise Lefebvre from Quebec. The Gold medal team consisted of
Melanie Jans, Kelsey Souchereau and Jennifer Blumberg. The #2
Women's Team was Ashley Clackson, Alicia Haneine and Nicola Martin.
The BC #1 Men's Team won the Silver losing very narrowly to Quebec
in the Final. The BC #1 Team consisted of Winston Cabell, Jeff
Boag and Jim Geddes. Both BC teams finished higher than expected.
Seeded third, the #1 BC Team was expected to meet Alberta in the
Semi Final but that didn't happen. It seems that the #7th seeded
team, which just happened to be the #2 BC Team pulled off a huge
upset by defeating Alberta in the Quarter Finals. The BC #2 Team
consisted of Jonathan De Souza, Randy Town and Barry Gifford.
Jonathan De Souza came up with the big win in that match up defeating
Joe Forster 3-1. Barry Gifford played a barn burner of a match
which was also a huge contribution to Bc's 2nd Team victory over
Alberta. Barry defeated Andrew Janzic in extra points in the 5th.
This set up a BC vs. BC Semi Final, guaranteeing either Gold or
silver to one BC Team and a no less than 3rd or 4th place finish
for the other. The #1 BC Team came within one or two points of
winning the Gold and likewise the #2 BC Team came within one or
two points of placing third.
Jeff Boag had an extremely good weekend as well. Jeff set the
tone in the men's final by upsetting Sean Delierre of Quebec in
the first match. The BC Teams were seeded 3rd and 7th so a very
good finish for both the men's teams.
