Ben Garners Evergreen Open Title
England's Ben Garner stormed to victory in the final
of the Evergreen Open Squash Championship in Vancouver, Canada,
when he beat local hero Matthew Giuffre in straight games to secure
the second PSA Tour title of his career.
Top seed Garner, 24, from Lingfield in Surrey, needed
four games to overcome compatriot Lee Drew in the semi-finals
- while Giuffre, the fourth seed from Edmonton, pulled off a notable
upset when he defeated second-seeded Englishman Alex Stait.
Despite suffering from the effects of flu, Garner
despatched Giuffre 11-3 11-9 11-8 in the final.
"This was the first time the Evergreen Squash
Club, located in North Vancouver, has hosted a PSA event and the
entire experience was an outstanding success," said Tournament
Committee spokesman Paul Marley.
