Women’s Team Win Silver
in Moncton
So, the journey began bright and early on Thursday morning. Sarah,
Alicia and I met at Vancouver Airport ready to play our best squash
(that’s including drop shot’s not bomb’s). Luckily
we got plenty of legroom on the way there and the journey was
completed very quickly with the team bonding from all different
areas of the world. Alicia was born in Mexico, Sarah in New Zealand
and myself in lil’ old England. We shared stories of growing
up in our different squash communities. Alicia play’s at
the Evergreen Club, Sarah and I play regularly at Jericho squash
club.
So we have a great Moncton local gentleman pick us up from the
airport with finite details of the local area, we were so impressed
with his passion for the squash club and City. We checked quickly
into the Coast Plaza, central to Moncton Town Centre. The Squash
Club in Moncton was not far from the hotel and has just opened
in the last 3 years by playing members. They have done an amazing
job and have 3 great courts. If you ever wanted to go and visit
you would be more than welcome. Every little detail was looked
at closely; we even had a calling card in our packages to phone
home and to my delight luxury lotion and soap from a local Moncton
Company. The Men’s bathrooms even had pretty flowers in
the Urinal’s for the event. Yes, the girls stole the Men’s
bathroom for the event. It was the first time we’d seen
a line up outside their allocated one toilet; I guess you’d
have to be there to see the funny side.
So down to the Squash, we played in usual style at 9am (5am Vancouver
time…..ahhhhh) against NWT, we defeated them in 3. Then
we played the notorious “youngster” Ontario team,
consisting of the dynamite duo, Steph Edminson and Rebecca Hazel
and the thirty something Leah, it was tough, we knew it was going
to be, but we managed to pull it off 2-1. So we played PEI on
Saturday 9am, sharp. double ahhhhhh. We played well and improved
our tactics for the play off’s against Manitoba, we had
a strong start from Alicia and nicely followed by Sarah, we won
3-0. Off we were excited to play in the Final against the strong
Quebecer’s. It was a tough match and we all played well,
however they managed to pull off a 2-1 win for us to take home
a well-earned Silver Medal. I would just like to say thanks to
my amazing teammates, I had a great time and look forward to a
nice long rest! Thanks again to Squash BC for sending us!
