The Squash BC Awards

The Squash BC Awards night was held on Saturday, March 1st in conjunction with the BC Championships. Each year Squash BC presents awards to deserving individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty in organizing and promoting squash in BC.

The Jack Larsen Trophy is awarded for all round contribution to, and the development of squash in B.C. Brooke Siver has certainly done these things and more is the recipient of this award.

The John Burris Memorial Award is presented annually to a squash player who demonstrates sportsmanlike conduct both on and off the court. A very surprised and happy Larry Armstrong won this award.

The Presidents Plate is awarded for the best supporter of our game and our Association in a myriad of different ways. Tony Goodson who has always supported the sport of squash was the winner of this award.

The Ernie Rogers Trophy is awarded for the best record in national and international competition. This year was a very easy year to figure this one out with Viktor Berg being ranked Number One in the world for Doubles.

A new award was presented this year. The Club Challenge award for the club/league that raises the most for the 2020 Fund was awarded to the Bentall Centre Athletic Club. They ran a free tournament where the participants were encouraged to donate to the 2020 Fund instead of an entry fee.

After the dinner the Arbutus Casino was set up for all to enjoy winning, (or losing,) Arbutus Bucks. These bucks were then turned into tickets and the next day the tickets were drawn for some great prizes.

Of course the sponsors play a major role in all our tournaments and this one was no exception. Thank you to Quizam, Lululemon Athletica, Dunlop Sport, Soren Rasmussen, Max’s Deli & Bakery, New Balance, MacDonald Commercial, Buntain Insurance, North South Travel, Aritzia and Matthew D Fahey.
