Junior’s do well in Calgary
The BC Junior Team spent the past weekend competing
in the 2006 Alberta Jesters Junior event held at The Glencoe Club
in Calgary, Alberta. The Alberta Jesters is a large event drawing
over 200 Canadian athletes from as far away as Ontario. Team BC
performed wonderfully throughout the weekend with many exciting
matches played.
Congratulations to Rachel Au who won the Girls U15 event! Rachel
is a first year U15 player and played wonderful, inspired squash
throughout the weekend. Congratulations are also in order to Sarah
Parsons who placed second in the Girls U19 event. The Girls U13
category saw two strong performances from Abbey Foster and Avril
Cross who finished second and third respectively. Rounding out
the Girl’s side saw Nikki Sequeira place fourth in the Girls
U19 event and Kristen Iverson won the GU17 Consolation event.
Well done ladies on a great tournament!
Congratulations to Ryan Herden who played strong, consistent squash
throughout the weekend and was rewarded with a first place victory
in the Boys U17 event. Mackenzie Foster who won the Boys U15 event,
played what had to be one of the strangest matches of the tournament.
With Mac leading 7-5 in the first game, his opponent somehow cut
his own knee and was given an injury timeout to staunch the blood
flow. The cut turned out to be quite deep and wouldn’t stop
bleeding. After 25 minutes, the match was officially postponed
and about one hour later resumed on a different court. Mac played
very well, beating his opponent 3-0 for a well deserved victory.
Congratulations are also in order to Remington Hall and Stuart
Akam who both finished 3rd in the BU15 and BU17 events respectively.
Chris Stinson and Zac Leman rounded out the Boys strong showing
with a wins in the BU17 and BU13 Consolation events.
Next up for the BC Juniors is the Canadian Junior Open to be held
at The Hollyburn Country Club December 9-12. This International
caliber event will see some of the top Junior squash players on
the continent competing in our backyard. Please mark your calendars
and plan to come out to watch some thrilling squash and of course
to support our BC Juniors!
