Provincial High Performance Program

Program Purpose:
The purpose of the Provincial High Performance Junior Squash Program is to provide the top junior squash players in each age category from U13 up, an opportunity to train and develop as both athletes and squash players within an integrated and sports science supported environment. The Program content will be delivered by a team of qualified Provincial Coaches working in conjunction with SportMed BC. The High Performance Program plans to work in Partnership with the various athlete’s Coaches from around the Province.

Program Goals:
The primary goal of the Provincial High Performance Program is develop National caliber squash athletes capable of competing for and winning National titles. To this end, it is the program’s goal to achieve the following:

2006/2007 - At least twelve athletes to finish in the top eight of the 2007 Canadian Nationals with two of these athletes finishing Bronze or better and one athlete winning Gold.

2007/2008 - At least twelve athletes to finish in the top eight of the 2007 Canadian Nationals with three of these athletes finishing Bronze or better and two athletes winning Gold.

2008/2009 - At least sixteen athletes to finish in the top eight of the 2007 Canadian Nationals with four of these athletes finishing Bronze or better and two athletes winning Gold.

2009/2010 - At least sixteen athletes to finish in the top eight of the 2007 Canadian Nationals with five of these athletes finishing Bronze or better and three athletes winning Gold. An additional goal for this year is to win the Nations Cup.

2010/2011 - At least sixteen athletes to finish in the top eight of the 2007 Canadian Nationals with five of these athletes finishing Bronze or better and three athletes winning Gold. An additional goal for this year is to win at least two medals at the Canada Winter Games, with one of the medals being Gold.

Program Organization

The HPP will be organized into four primary subgroups:

  • BU13/U15
  • BU17/U19
  • GU13/U15
  • GU17/U19

Each subgroup will ideally consist of ten athletes with equal representation from each age category within the subgroup. The subgroup size can change if the situation warrants either a smaller or larger number of athletes.

The full HPP will be launched in the Summer of 2007. A partial rollout of the HPP is targeted for Spring of 2007. The HPP Sub-Committee will publish more specifics on the Program as they are developed throughout this current squash season.

Selection Criteria

The top five ranked players in each age category based on the Squash BC rankings as of April 30 of each year. Player’s falling outside of the top five in each age category may apply for acceptance into the HPP. Acceptance will be determined by the HPP Sub-Committee and will be based on factors such as: previous HPP experience, performance at National events as well as other extenuating circumstances. Decisions of the HPP Sub-Committee will be based on quantifiable results, will be openly communicated with the parties involved and are not subject to appeal.
