Squash BC – Provincial Developing Junior Program

Program Overview
The Provincial Developing Junior Program has been designed to guide the committed and improving junior squash athlete through a program of skill and fitness development in a supportive, fun environment. Using the input of certified Coaches and a guiding group of parent coordinators, selected athletes will have their skill and fitness abilities assessed through participation in a series of Provincial Camps. Through the Camp assessment process, the athletes will have technical, strategic and fitness improvements identified in their game. Upon completion of the Camps, athletes will receive a ‘Player Assessment Report’ from which they can return to their training bases to focus on the areas of improvement. All aspects of the Program will be conducted in a manner designed to create enjoyment for squash through skill development, camaraderie, improved fitness and fun.

Program Goals
The primary objective of the Developing Junior Program is to upgrade the base skill set of improving squash athletes. Upon providing the athletes with the core skills to be successful at Provincial level competitions, the athletes may be invited to participate in National level skill development as part of the Provincial High Performance Program.

Program Organization
Selected athletes will be invited to one Provincial Camp in the fall of the year and one in the winter/spring. Each camp will have a minimum of two certified squash Coaches coordinating the Camps, with some Camps providing guest speakers to provide specialized information to the athletes.

The Junior Development Committee of Squash BC subsidizes a significant portion of the costs associated to each Camp. ar.lbi" -->

Selection Criteria
Athletes will be chosen through a combination of Provincial rankings (top three ranked players in each age category which have not been selected for the High Performance Program) as well as input from squash professionals and local club coordinators. Further, to be considered for the program, each athlete must be a registered member of Squash BC, participate in at least
two of the six sanctioned junior Provincial tournaments per year (Provincial Junior Open, Provincial Junior Closed, PNW, Evergreen, Pac Rim Juniors, West Coast Juniors) and show a commitment to squash through regular participation in a local club program or receiving coaching support.

The Provincial Developing Junior Sub-Committee (comprised of parents and Coaches) ultimately decides which athletes will be invited to participate in the program. Program selection will be performed through a transparent process ensuring all selection criteria are openly communicated to the parties involved.
