Squash BC is part of a nation-wide officiating program designed and maintained by Squash Canada. Officiating is an integral part of squash and help to promote fair play and safety. Our officiating programs develop new officials, promote mentorship, and encourage officials to increase their certification and proficiency from the club to the national level. Our officiating courses provide a greater understanding of the rules of squash and should help improve the level of play and overall safety of our community.

Squash BC Referee Development Program
In 2023 Squash BC launched the Referee Development Program. This program was created to increase the number of referees across BC and support their development in the Squash Canada Officiating Pathway.
The Referee Development Program provides referees with specialized training to learn and improve their refereeing skills. This includes virtual and on court education workshops, mentorship and assessments from highly experienced referees, and further resources in the development of the future top officials in the province.
The Squash BC Referee Development Program is always seeking referees looking to build their skills and receive additional development opportunities. Referees interested in joining the Referee Development Program are encouraged to contact competitions@squashbc.com for more details and to involve yourself in upcoming events relating to this program.
Singles Officiating Pathway
Squash Canada Singles Officiating Pathway
The Squash Canada Singles Officiating Certification Pathway allows officials to progress from the initial Club Referee certification all the way to National Referee certification.
The Singles Officiating Certification Levels follow the pathway:
- Club Referee
- Local Referee
- Provincial Referee
- National Referee

Become a Singles Club Referee
You can take the Squash Canada Officiating Certification Course and become a Certified Club Referee through the CAC Locker. Download a CAC instruction sheet to learn how to access the course.
Become a Singles Referee Assessor
There are two levels of Assessors in the Squash Canada Officiating Program. All assessors must be a Provincial or National status referee and pass all Squash Canada requirements. Any interested Squash BC members that would like to become an assessor should contact sportdevelopment@squashbc.com.
Doubles Officiating Pathway
Squash Canada Doubles Officiating Pathway
The Squash Canada Doubles Officiating Program is a comprehensive program that encompasses all aspects of the training of doubles officials and instructors, and the dissemination of information about the Rules of Hardball Doubles Squash.
The Doubles Officiating pathway has two levels of certification:
- Provincial Referee
- National Referee
The Doubles Officiating Program Administration Manual outlines the requirements for becoming a certified doubles official and how to progress to a National referee.

BECOME A PROVINCIAL DOUBLES REFEREE
Squash BC will be hosting a Doubles Certification Clinic in early 2023 at one of the Vancouver clubs, please check this website closer to the date for more information on when the clinic will take place. After attending the clinic, participants will be required to pass a written examination and a practical test (i.e. while officiating a match).
